Maurice Allen is no stranger to competition. He’s a multi-time Long Drive World Champion and was ranked #1 player in the world. He became the first person to hit a golf ball across Niagara Falls in 2019.
Maurice faced a new challenge and competition this summer – trying to make the GOLFZON Tour team at his local GOLFZON facility. Based inside Reunion Resort & Golf Club, the GOLFZON Leadbetter Academy team advanced to the semifinals in Season 1. Take a look at his journey on our latest Youtube video here.
More Than a $300K Golf Competition
Sure, it would be nice to get a hefty $300,000 check as the winner, but he had more in mind when he came to qualify.
The thing that they don’t talk about is the bonding of those four people who are on that team. You’re working together with a common goal to change each other’s lives. I think golf is traditionally such an individual sport. Doing it in the team fashion makes you think about it a little bit differently. That part’s really a unique aspect of it.
Course Strategy Over Distance: Competing on an Indoor Golf Simulator
The 43-year-old didn’t use a driver once during his qualifier, but he didn’t need it. He didn’t need to show off that he once hit 483 yards in a competition. Whether it’s on an indoor golf simulator or green-grass, course management is critical. Blend in unique features on GOLFZON’s TwoVision system like the moving swing plate and there’s a lot to consider when qualifying for the Tour.
The technology was absolutely wonderful. I think it’s really trippy how the platform moves. It definitely gives you real feedback. The ball checks up when you chip, it checks back when you hit an approach shot, it spins, all those different things.
High Stakes and Real Rewards in Virtual Golf
While making the team is another goal for Maurice to cross off, he understands the magnitude of GOLFZON Tour. He noted that each winner will receive $75,000, more than the annual average salary in the United States.
That could be a down payment on a home. That could be college funds for kids. That could be paying off bills.
Add in the fact that participants are competing against each other like professionals on PGA and LPGA Tour and it’s a can’t-miss opportunity.
This is really cool because it gives people the opportunity to play golf for money in a way where some people would probably not be able to do that. It’s highly competitive, and it doesn’t take all day. I think I played my round in just about an hour, so I could do this right after work, take a decompression hour, and then get home to the family.
A Second Shot at Qualifying in Orlando
Maurice wasn’t too pleased with his first score and vowed to return to make the Orlando team. Located at Reunion Resort & Golf Club, it’s a short drive for Maurice to try to qualify as many times as he wants. Just like anytime you hold a golf club, it can be a rollercoaster ride. But GOLFZON Tour has prizes, friendship and fierce competition that anyone can enjoy.
If you just want to be competitive and everybody who’s playing golf wants to compete, find one of these simulators, go to one of these places, just give it a try. It’s actually a lot of fun. It’s frustrating, but it’s still a lot of fun.
